2001 IS300 Aftermarket Stereo Installation

Unfortunately they do not make a radio replacement wire harness for the 2001 IS300 as it is made slightly different then the 2002-2005 year models. This guide is going to walk you through how to change the factory radio in the 2001 IS300 with the AX-TYAMP1

In the 2001 IS300 the factory radio uses two plugs where as 2002 and newer models combine both plugs into one plug. Below is a picture of the two plugs that went into the factory 2001 IS300 radio. We will refer to there as plug A and plug B. In the 2002-2005 IS300 cars there is no plug B the two wires from that plug are located on one plug

There are only two wires on plug "B". On the 2002-2005 these two wires are located on plug "A"

The Picture below shows the wires on plug B and where they would be located on a 2002-2005. The Red/White wire is located next to the Yellow wire on plug A and the Red/Blue wire is located to the center between the White wire with the Blue stripe and the Blue wire.

The Axxess AX-TYAMP1 have wires that will plug into these empty pin locations. As seen in this picture below one is a pink wire and the other is a blue wire with a white stripe.

The connections that need to be made are:

Vehicles red/white wire to Axxess Blue/pink wire
and
Vehicles red/white wire to Axxess pink wire

So you have a couple different options on how to connect the two wires from plug "B" to the radio replacement interface. Unfortunately you cannot just slide them into the other plug as the pins are not the same size.

  1. Cut the wires and splice them together
  2. Use a quick splice to connect the wires together
  3. Remove the pins from both the vehicle plug and the Axxess plug and connect them
Its a good idea to use some heat shrink tubing or electrical tape to prevent any shorts. Your finial result should look like this:

Other Important Notes:

- The Axxess AX-TYAMP1 comes with a second harness that is used in some Lexus and Toyota vehicles to retain the factory steering wheel controls. These wires will not be used In this installation

- Make sure the blue wire and the blue wire with the white stripe coming from the Axxess interface are connected to the turn on lead of the new stereo.

- Make sure the black wire and the black wire with the white stripe are connected to a solid ground. If you are having any type of turn on issues or sound issues do not use the factory radio ground and try and use it's own ground.

- Because the factory amp there is only two sets of speaker wires on the Axxess interface
  • White and white/black
  • Gray and gray/black
You will not use the green, green/black, purple, purple/black speaker outputs of the new stereo. Tape these off to prevent any shorts
